Kwame Opoku (50's), a former Captain in Ghana's army, now works and lives in exile as a cab driver in Los Angeles. After a Coup d'Etat in 1979, in which he was branded a traitor and his father was executed, Kwame fled to the United States feeling like his country betrayed him and vowing never to return.
Alone in America, Kwame has spent the last twenty years leading a reclusive life, his anger mounting. He spends his days driving his cab on the streets of Los Angeles, unable to forget the past or build a future. When he reaches out to Roxanne, a heroin addict with a troubled past, he finds the strength to reevaluate his life and confront his past.

Set against the backdrop of the 2000 Ghanaian elections, "The Cab Driver," is the story of Kwame Opoku, a former Captain in the Ghanaian Army, who has been living in exile in Los Angeles for the past twenty years.
