Title:
Theo is a 30-something wedding photographer living in Red Hook, Brooklyn. He hates his job -- the phony sentiment, the cover bands, the "black-tie buffets." As a sideline, he launches GUMSHOOT -- a service in which clients hire him to follow them anonymously and take surveillance-style photos. Subjects can see what they really look like out in the world -- no posing, no saying "cheese!“
Three months from tying the knot with his live-in girlfriend, Theo is hired by a mysterious woman, about 40, who calls herself Subgirl. What starts as a simple gig, however, soon takes an unlikely turn -- Subgirl, fully aware that Theo's camera is on her, begins experimenting with increasingly provocative acts. As Theo's wedding date nears, his growing obsession with his seemingly-liberated, thrill-seeking subject forces him to cross the sacred line between artist and subject, only to find out that things were not at all what they seemed. A contemporary mash-up of "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" and "Diner," "Monogamy" is both a provocative thriller and a slacker comedy -- a timely, twisty, cautionary, coming-of-age tale about fear of marriage in an increasingly noncommittal, exhibitionistic age. Indeed, the grass ain't always greener on the other side.
Monogamy is the first live action feature film of Dana Adam Shapiro who was nominated for an Oscar for his 2005 documentary "Murderball."
