Set against the backdrop of the 2000 Ghanaian elections, "The Cab Driver," is the story of Kwame Opoku, a former Captain in the Ghanaian Army, who has been living in exile in Los Angeles for the past twenty years. Forced to flee to America after a Coup d'Etat in 1979, Kwame now works as a cab driver, living a reclusive life in a country that is not his own, harboring anger over the betrayal he feels at the hands of his native land, and haunted by a tragic event he blames himself for.
