Casting Call Details
During the Japanese festival for the dead a sister has to tell her family of her younger brother's suicide.
Keep it or reveal it, having a secret is agonizing, especially for Naoko Oshiro, whose determination to defy her mother's traditional Japanese expectations has manifested itself as pink hair and shaven eyebrows to start.
The film opens on the last day of Obon, the festival for the dead, when Naoko discovers the body of her younger brother. Shocked, ashamed, and uncertain how to tell anyone she doesn't call the police. As she joins her family for the day's celebration she discovers a need for her mother's comfort she thought she'd long outgrown.
